If I hit a man because I caught him groping my wife, I should get a fine at the most. If I go up to a random stranger and hit him, I should get a couple of days in jail. If on the other hand I go up to a gay guy and yell "take this you ---," and then punch him, I should have the book thrown at me.

What if, for example, the situation is reversed and it was the gay guy that came up to you and yelled "take this you straight-something-or-other" before slugging you.Or if 'whity' got shot for being a 'cracka' and not because 'blacky' was simply robbing random people. The law is one-sided and hypocritical. I understand that the "minorities" need accomidation, but at the cost of eveyone else? I think not.

Regardless of what South Park says, a hate crime is when someone commits a crime against you because of your perceived race, religion, etc. "White" is a race, so far as the law is concerned. The law does not say "if you punch someone because they are black...," the law says "if you punch someone because of their race..."
