Lyric:If you look at your reflection in the bottom of a well,What you see is only on the surface. When you try to see the meaning, hidden underneath,The measure of the depth can be deceiving. The bottom has a rocky reputationYou can feel it in the distance the deeper down you stare. From up above it's hard to see but you knowwhen you're there. On the bottom words are shallow. On the surface talk is cheap. You can only judge the distance by the company you keepIn the eyes of the CONFESSOR.In the eyes of the Confessor,There's no place you can hide. You can't hide from the eyes (of the Confessor)Don't you even try.In the eyes of the ConfessorYou can't tell a lie,You cannot tell a lie (to the Confessor)Strip you down to size,Naked as the day that you were born,Naked as the day that you were born.(Tremendous guitar work)Take all the trauma, drama, comments,The guilt and doubt and shameThe what if's and if only'sThe shackles and the chainsThe violence and aggresion,The pettiness and scorn,The jealousy and hatred,The tempest and discord,AND GIVE IT UP!

May 27, 2008 - He looks like DR.Smith from "Lost In Space" in the red room in the end.

Jun 2, 2008 - Great song and very interesting lyrics. Funny that I've just now noticed the words b/c I've always liked the music.

Jun 5, 2008 - Great song. I must say that I do prefer some others, such as 'At The Station' and a couple of the hits he had with the James Gang. But the lyrics are superb, bizarre and interesting. Walsh is the perfect guitarist, popular and charismatic on stage but doesn't over-shadow his fantastic guitar work with stage antics. Fucking love this

Jun 15, 2008 - One of the great lost rock tunes of the 80's. I wish they would play this in the Eagles set now.

Jun 16, 2008 - I haven't heard this JW tune in many years as well. I rarely listen to the radio, and in between cd changes, I heard the long intro and it grabbed my attention....it struck me so hard...great lyrics and guitar work...what a classic rock tune!

Jul 20, 2008 - this song is one of my all time favs, by one of my all time fav artists. joe walsh is so much better on his own without the eagles.

georgebushisawesome Says:

Jul 25, 2008 - agreedas soon as the video slut appeared, i knew that Joe's vision would not be accurately reproduced. Most 80s music was denigrated this way. I closed my eyes and created my own video for the soundtrackJoe must've been listening to Bill Hicks around the time he wrote this, a great synchronicity between them here
