Today is the day. Today is the day that Jake gets out of the hospital. I am so excited but Nick and I have been arguing all day. He wants Jake and I to come back to California with him. I really think that we need to stay here though. I found out yesterday that I lost my job at Rita's. Rita's nephew fired me, and their was nothing she could do to save my job because I haven't been showing up for work. But what was I supposed to do? So now, I have to find a new job and Jake and I both need to catch up on about two weeks of school. Right now is not a good time to just pick up and move. Lauren and Ishbelle have visited a few times. They were really worried. It's nice to know that they care about Jake. It is nice to know that Jake has so many people in his life that care about him. Nick just got back from a Starbucks run. He walked into the room and handed me a cup of coffee. He took a sip of his coffee and gave Jake a cup as well."You bought Jake coffee?" I asked harshly."No, it's hot chocolate." He said with a smile."Oh, I'm sorry. Thank you." I replied sheepishly."It's okay, you are his mother. You can be overprotective if you want." We smiled at each other. I want to tell Nick how I feel about him but I'm scared. So I have decided to wait for him to bring it up.A doctor swiftly walked into the room, followed by an official looking woman in a dark blue suit. The doctor looked apologetic, but I couldn't figure out why. "Hi, I'm Kathryn Smith." The lady in the suit said politely."Hello." I said while standing up and offering her my hand. She shook my hand and then turned to Nick and shook his hand as well."I'm with Social Services. We were contacted by your son's school. They informed us that..." She looked down at a piece of paper in her hand. "...Jacob Gomez was being cared for by a minor. Then we found out that he hasn't been in school." I knew things were too perfect to last. Now, I was scared. One of my worst nightmares was coming true. Jake's school had finally caught on that he wasn't living with an adult. What was going to happen? I was so scared on the inside but I tried to look confident on the outside. I glanced at Jake Luckily; he was preoccupied with his hot chocolate and had no interest in this lady and what she had to say. I quickly tried to explain the reason for his absence. "He couldn't go to school because..." She cut me off in mid sentence."I know. I have personally looked into it, and found that he was, here, in the hospital. But now, that I know that he is under the care of a minor though, I can't..." She looked at Jake. "Let's take this outside, shall we." I felt like someone had punched me in the stomach. I felt like a deflated balloon. I felt like a little girl whose parents had disowned her. I knew this feeling all too well. And it hurt. It hurt bad. Nick grabbed my hand and we walked towards the door. I looked up at Nick. He looked so scared. I don't think I've ever seen him look so vulnerable before. "Like I was saying, I just can't look the other way now. I have to take Jake and he is going to become a ward of the state." She said calmly."NO!" I shouted at her. "You can't take Jake." I was about to charge the woman but Nick caught me by the arms. I turned around to face him."Let go of me." I shouted right in his face. He didn't even flinch."I can't do that." He replied calmly. I struggled to get free of his grip but he was too strong. Eventually I just gave up and broke down. I fell to the floor right in the middle of the dirty hospital hallway but I didn't care. "I am so sorry. But I have to think about what is best for the child." She said to me with no remorse whatsoever in her voice. I was about to tell her that she doesn't know what is best for MY child but she had already walked away with the doctor. Then I got an idea. It was a stupid, dangerous, and illegal idea but I didn't think they're were any other options!"Everything will be okay in the end. It's hard to explain but basically, I was at a fork in the road. I knew where I wanted to take the story but I didn't know which road to take to get there. I hope you like the road I chose! Well, I was busy too. My friend and I bought a slip and slide yesterday, it was awesome, and attacked some people with water balloons. BIG FUN! Also, I will be posting my list of stories that you should check out tomorrow. So look out for that. I will let you all know when and if Roshon responds. Thanks for all the help even though I am sure he thinks I am a creeper now! I feel bad leaving you at this point in the story so I am going to start writing right now.
