Jul 26, 2008 - As for the last little bit - I think Michael Albert has said something along the following lines: majority rule, consent, or one person having the power to decide are all just modes of decision-making, none of them are principles unto themselves. The principle is that people should have decision making power roughly to the degree to which they are affected.
jtr3030 Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - That is the ideal form of democracy. I meant to include that. Albert is a huge influence of mine.
Pananarchist Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - Good points. I've never understood the "natural rights" arguments that some people tend to. Rights only exist to the degree that groups of individuals consent to them. Perhaps if they were living in Walden, they would be right. But the fact that most of us live in society where individuals and groups are using a limited amount of resources which are necessary for survival means that there is bound to be friction.

Jul 26, 2008 - Thumbs up. Good video.
Pananarchist Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - I think that friction is best handled in decentralized democratic forms, which allow for the most wills of the most people to be expressed with the least amount of friction.

Jul 26, 2008 - Good stuff.

Jul 26, 2008 - I'll do a video response sometime today
TehBANN3D Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - And how do those individuals have the right to consent to rights if they don't possess rights??
jtr3030 Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - rights can only be born within a society; they can only be given to people by other people. otherwise they are unilaterally enforced claims.
Darganot Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - Even with the editing, you lost me.You should know by now I disagree with you but it's good to see another person making videos.
jtr3030 Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - I didn't know that at all.
thorsmitersaw Says:
Jul 27, 2008 - you don't need to believe in free association to believe in anarchy?!?!?!?!??!?!???do you have any idea what that concludes to?: SLAVERY IS OKAY
thorsmitersaw Says:
Jul 27, 2008 - then you don't understand the nature of natural rights.
jtr3030 Says:
Jul 27, 2008 - I said you don't need to believe in subjectivism to believe in anarchy.
thorsmitersaw Says:
Jul 27, 2008 - then you should have no problem accepting the 'rights' granted to you and have no 'right' to claim any more than the ones you currently posses as granted to you by your god 'society'
jtr3030 Says:
Jul 27, 2008 - society can be wrongdon't bother responding to me if you're going to argue ad hominem and slander
thorsmitersaw Says:
Jul 27, 2008 - that 'society can be wrong' is my point and exactly why I find democracy as disgusting as its supposed opposites of monarchy/dictatorship. You cannot sit here and tell me that such and such government/societal norm/position is wrong and yet tell me thatmajority rule as such is correct.
jtr3030 Says:
Jul 28, 2008 - you find society disgusting (as do i). maybe democracy also, but democracy in all its forms is meant to represent the will of people as much as possible. i think that's fair and just, and i don't think majority decisions should be binding on minorities. The logic of monarchy is still present in individualism. Every property owner is a monarch on their land.
jtr3030 Says:
Jul 28, 2008 - assuming you're a capitalist/individualist, you don't advocate freedom within association which is maybe the most important part.
Darganot Says:
Jul 28, 2008 - You've been commenting on my videos and ignored my requests for invites to the sites you have listed on your profile.
jtr3030 Says:
Jul 29, 2008 - I remember commenting on a couple of your vids. I'm quite selective of who I invite since it reflects on me. They have strict rules at those places.

Jul 26, 2008 - omg your first video.
