Early Canadian single by this Toronto group, led by Tommy Graham. Issued February 1966 on Capitol 72327. From the album "The Big Town Boys" on Capitol T-6168. Between 1965 and 1967, the group made only seven singles, either as the Big Town Boys or BTB 4, on the RCA Victor, Tamarac, Capitol and Yorkville labels. This was their fourth. After you hear it, you'll think it owes a lot to The McCoys' "Hang On Sloopy," but this one came out six months earlier.

Apr 6, 2008 - Good song. Another regional hit? Canada was unbelievably bad at promoting their own music in the 60s.

Apr 6, 2008 - I don't know how widespread the play on this record was. It was on Capitol, so it must have had some promotional budget behind it. It's not one of their big records, though. It made #42 on the CHUM Chart. My cousin Beth had this record, and she would have heard it on CKOC Hamilton, or any of the Toronto stations, CHUM or CKEY. I played it at her house when I was a kid. It took me 24 years to find my own copy! The Canadian music scene used to be really disorganized. It's very poorly documented.

May 2, 2008 - How cool! Yes, I've been here for ten years, but I'm from Hamilton.

Jun 2, 2008 - "Hang On Sloopy" was originally called "My Girl Sloopy" by The Vibrations (a soul group). "My Girl Sloopy" was around before this! This is amazing, I need a copy of this LP!!!

Jun 23, 2008 - mojofilter02, You have a lot of great and unexpected surprises here from the 60s and 70s. My favourite Canadian song from that era is Three Long Days and Nights by the Keatniks, a band from Newfoundland. Are you familiar with it?

mojofilter02 Says:

Jun 25, 2008 - Thanks! Sorry, I'm not familiar with that record. I suggest you look up YT user tokensurfer and ask him. He has a large number of obscure Canadian records, and he may have it.
