May 23, 2008 - Though there are actually more Jews living in the US than in Israel, Jews are still a vast minority and wouldn't contribute much either in votes or in dollars. US support of Israel is probably a bit of post holocaust guilt, sympathy for the minority, and support of fellow democracies. The US gave nukes to Israel initially because much like our other allies, we knew they would never use them. I'm sure there are plenty of other religious reasons, that whole chosen ppl thing, but that's crap.

Jun 11, 2008 - more geo-political then religious.the USA tries to maintain a presence in the middle east,and isreal has been one of the most reliable ones we have.the religious element is more of a concern at home where christian fundamentalist want to see isreal survive for prophetic reasons,and the mix of religious and coultural from the jewish community,both have some solid political influence.

Jun 11, 2008 - why settle for one when you can have two,or three,or four.we have relations with kuwait,in no small part due to our use of our military on their behalf.we are investing heavily(and badly)in iraq.we have propped up and aided assorted dictators there.i imagine to some extent having isreal so dependent on us helps reassure us that they will look after our intrests.plus as i said isreal gets added incentive to be supported for all the other reasons you mentioned

If you call kidnapping those from surrounding countries, breaking cease fires and threatening annihilation with their own nuclear missiles morals... then that's pretty sad. If an Iranian lived in Israel, they'll be ridiculed and killed just the same. It works both ways.

Jul 21, 2008 - Excuse me? Have you been to Israel? I live here. And what makes me upset is that Arabs can walk around the city freely (and so they should be able to). BUT, do you know how scared I am to go to the Arab villages in Israel???There is no way I could have the same freedom to walk around in their shops as they do in the Jewish Villages or cities.It's very easy for you to have an opinion about the situation when you're not even here.
