People complain that the lava man leveling is to hazardous. I am going to prove them wrong.I started this show with Rei, Momo, and Ryu. StatisticsRyu lv36Momo lv13Rei lv 32Items and skills needed:Any skill that bypasses defence (Spirit - Blast, Mighty Chop, Shadowwalk). Hand them to your heaviest hitter (in this case Ryu, but Garr or Peco help too).- Monopolise to the character you wish to level (trust me, it's easier this way)- The Burn skill. Yes! This useless skill has a purpose afterall! Give it to whomever you like, except ryu.- Flare sword for Ryu (train beyd with a moonsword and you get this as a reward I believe. Or buy it at Urkan Tapa)- Magma Armor. The Volcano monsters drop these like candy from time to time (make sure they are woken up).- Ring of Fire. Can be found somewhere inside Mt Zublo.(Note; this is important; make SURE all 3 of your characters absorb fire. If you have the asbestos armor, inoculate that character with the fire inoculation and they will never take fire damage. This is however, up to you)- have a handful of ammonias. Anywhere between 10 or 20 should be enough.- Make sure that your characters are already assigned to a master you intend to learn from, or else you might skip a good opportunity to learn new skills or gain better stats.Lets begin. Have ryu use the flare sword, and have the person you wish to level monopolise. Your third character MUST be faster than the character using the spirit blast/mighty chop/shadowwalk skills, or if your third char is the one with those skills he or she should be last (equip a midas stone if you must). Let the third character use an ammonia on ryu (even if he's not dead. this is vital).Eventually the lava man you are attacking with fire will take 0 dmg from ryu, move as first, and cast heavy fire spells. When this happens, have 2 of your chars use ammonias on eachother, and have 1 char continue using fire spells on the lava man (Burn being the cheapest one).Note - you CAN use accession and transform into the fire dragon, or trygon, but I dont recommend this. Because if you do this ryu cannot use items any longer which puts you at a heavy disadvantage. After a while, you may feel up to killing the lava man. In that case, make sure Ryu (or whoever has the bypass-defence skills) is the only one attacking, with a non-fire (or wind/electricity) weapon. Make sure the other two chars use ammonias on eachother. Again make sure that the one who uses the ammonia on the person you wish to level is FASTER than the person attacking (you will scream holy hell if you gain 0exp because that char is killed off before ryu kills the lavaman). After a few minutes, you should be welcoming over tens of thousands of experience. I feel that this is an easier way to level, since the archmage and berserker are stronger, kill much faster, are very rare to fight, and require a lot more preparation as well, whereas you can level with the lavaman as soon as you hit mt zublo really.Reasons not to use dragons or the weretiger -You dont use dragons because it means ryu cant use items anymore. The lavaman just needs to hit one of the ammonia users, and then the second to leave just ryu (trust me it happened). You dont use the weretiger simply because you will reach a point very fast where the Weretiger does 0dmg. Not to mention you need to use Influence, and Influence ends the moment the caster dies (which is very likely to happen), which will result in Rei chopping your remaining partymember up into chewable beef jerky slices.Lava man specificsm(incomplete)When fire (or fire + wind) attacks/spells are used;- The experience doubles much like it does when Ivory Dice is used- Intelligence increases- Attack Increases (drastically)- Speed increases (drastically)- Defence increases (drastically)- The Inferno spell is used after 2-3 attacksHP however stays the same (100 or 110 I'm not sure)Ap always stays the same, I believe it is set to 0 (infinite 0 that is, like the HP counter of Balio and Sunder). Dont tell me you have seen them run out of AP, I have never, EVER seen this happen and I fought them quite a lot.Lavaman NEVER have reprisals. Not EVER.Lavaman seem to enjoy hitting the #1 char in the "attack" formation. I have had games where they hit ryu nonstop and nobody else. Though this remains speculation.[edit] I believe they indeed attack the person in lead of the attack formation most. I placed Garr on lead and it resulted in him being attacked mostly. Also, the MOST experience you can get from lava men is 65751, which is the max for ANY battle. Regardless of how many monsters are in the battle. So anyone telling you that using ivory dice on the archmages of berserkers is much better is full of shit, considering they are 1) very rare to encounter, 2) require to much powers etc already, 3) compared to them the lava men are a sinch.

Nov 19, 2008 - ivory dice should take a great effect here.
michelrpg Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - the max exp was already reached. Ivory dice on a lavaman is useless unless you want to kill them while they are weak (which only has some point to it...they are still easy to kill even when this strong)

Nov 19, 2008 - I have a few questions, I've read the description but I just need to clarify this. Why does Momo never get attacked? How come Momo's max HP was only 83, did it go too far up?That reprisal owned that other lavaman. Poor thing.
michelrpg Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Momo doesnt get attacked because... she's very lucky. I dont know why exactly, but I know lavamen have a nasty habit of attacking someone with 1hp or someone who is just about to revive someone. Other than that, no clue (oh, they love attacking the frontman in the attack formation too)Momo's max hp was 83 because I never leveled her up until this moment. I wanted to show how much exp these critters could be worth for a very low-leveled character. Momo was level 13 so her stats werent very high

Nov 19, 2008 - Just picked up BoF 3 and got to Mt. Zublo, just wondering if the experience i get from doing this overlaps the original one, like I net 3000 exp from doing this and I'm lvl 20, and the original requirement is get 1000 exp to reach lvl 21, does the experience carry over to next lvl? Always wondered this
michelrpg Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Yes, it carries on to the next level. Look closely to momo's level BEFORE she gets the exp, and then AFTER she got it. She shoots from lv12 to lv 32 (hows that for leveling ;)? ).Also, I don't recommend you level ALL your characters when you first get there. Later in the game you encounter certain masters (Ladon, Deis) who require you to gain a hard 15-10 levels to gain skills (in Deis' case it's not THAT required but still). I recommend you level only ONE character.
stategamer Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - do u have to use monopolize?btw im dutch :Pksnap er geen hol van heb het al geprobeert.
michelrpg Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - je hoeft het niet te gebruiken, maar het is de snelste manier om 1 specifiek character te levelen (om bv snel skills te leren van masters zoals Deis of Ladon die heel veel levels vereisen)
ErikaSpiritAngel Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Where do you get monopolize from?
IlseInWonderland Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - (this is michelrpg, but I'm using my girlfriends laptop atm)I believe you get monopolise from D'lonzo as a first skill, but I'm not entirely sure right now.
BradRy2 Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - So would it be okay to do this before or after Ryu grows up?
michelrpg Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - that is entirely up to you. If you want a very buffed up team, you could do this as child ryu. The drawback is that you will have a difficult time learning the masters' skills (unless you leave peco at lv1). Benefit is that you'll be very strong, too strong for most bosses.Going there as teen ryu means that you can have access to most masters at a relatively low level (if you're up for that) and you can level each character under the master you desire. I prefer the latter, for better stats :)

Nov 19, 2008 - Well, I used Deis on the onion <_<, and Ladon... I did him kinda the hard way, only got aura after passing the desert T_T
buadambenimbabam Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - wouldn´t it be easier to use evil eye or something on them to make them useless and fight for fun??
michelrpg Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - I never tried it myself, but I suppose it would be useful if you want to level very late in the game. But considering that skill is attained at myria station, I never considered it very useful. Could you give me feedback on it working or not? I personally hope not since it would make leveling WAY to easy.
buadambenimbabam Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - well ur lucky i tried yesterday and today(it eas early in the morning 11:23 now)I couldn´t get them thay just keep resisting......anyway I leveled nina from lvl 36 to 49 today^^its a usefull way to level
buadambenimbabam Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - one more thing u say 65751 is max exp is this split up or after monopolize???cause I got over 100k with nina(monopolized
michelrpg Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Is the max you can get for 3 characters at once. So without monopolise you would get 65751 x 3 exp = total :)
buadambenimbabam Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - yeah I thought so cause It would be confusing getting over 100k if the half is just max(rounded off) :) anyway tnx to the lavaman(german Lavaiter which means something like LavaanimalO_o)I got peco over lvl 45 from lvl 16 in 1 hour(rounded off again)BTW:anyone has a list off skill the charas get from lvling???
SVWillmer Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Theres a guide on IGN that is kickass, you can find it on there somewhere.
SVWillmer Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - What about using intimiate? Same thing isn't it? Sort of.
hanh106 Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - wow
ToimintaMies Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - u're wrong about Magma armor drop rate :S
michelrpg Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Well I always seem to find them very easily. I always sell them to make a nice set of zenny in the earlier part of the game :P... keep trying. Make SURE you use a fireskill on them first (you'll know you did it right when they start attacking you back). And I am talking about the Volcanos here, not the lavamen.
pino265docs Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - i did this using alot of wisdom seeds (stolen from the tankbots) 99 ammonias and some fire attack having peco at level 1 at the start when i used pretty much all supplies peco was level 46 after playing for like 1 hour thats some freaking fast xp o.o
