May 9, 2008 - OK. Let me get this straight. A Skilled, Highly Trained, Professional Police Officer "... flagged/hurried..." this driver ",,, across the intersection to cross over the tracks..." IN FRONT OF AN APPROACHING TRAIN!!!?? Which one of these two did not hear or see all the warning signs? The driver most likely was exhausted - but - should have stopped and looked both directions before moving onto the tracks. This was all totally avoidable if everyone involved PAID ATTENTION TO THE WARNING SIGNS!

May 9, 2008 - I think there needs to be more than just warning signs to say that a train is comning... Where i live there are flashing lights AND most importantly CROSS BARS... Especially when it is bad weather warning lights and police lights could become confusing.. yes this could have been avoided But it happened and now we have to try and find a way for it not to happen again....

May 12, 2008 - ok so everyone in the sonata was ok? well not ok but still alive?. ohy god that is the same sonata i have only mine is in black. well if they all survived then its partly due to the structure of the car. thank god then thank the manufacturers of hyundainext. itsa very good car. i am so sorry to that something so bad happened. something whichcould have been avoided.

May 13, 2008 - Zero visibilty? Even more of a reason to "STOP - LOOK - and - LISTEN." If the guy worked adjacent to this crossing, he was well aware of its location. Make all the excuses you want for this driver - - I am happy that he was not killed - but this accident was the driver's fault! Not nature, not the police, not Amtrak, not poor crossing design or warning signal (nor a lack of gates), and lastly not fatigue. Simply driver inattention resulting in driver error.
