Amtrak 63, led by a a P32AC-DM, arrives into the Buffalo-Depew amtrak station. As the train pulled in, water began to pour out of the side of the cafe car (last car) as visible at the end of the video. The water was brown and had a terrible smell. Absolutely no doubt it was toilet water! However, there is a lesson to be learned here, STAND BEHIND THE YELLOW LINE!!!Honors for this video (2) #54 - Most Discussed (Today) - Autos & Vehicles#61 - Top Rated (Today) - Autos & Vehicles

May 17, 2008 - that's not sewage, that rinse water from the cafe car, Sewage is self contained like airline toliets.
sasilv1129 Says:
May 17, 2008 - I agree. All passenger cars in service on Amtrak now, Amfleet, Horizon, Viewliner, Superliner, etc. all have self contained sewage systems similar to airlines. In the glory days of the Lake Shore Limited, the old heritage fleet cars did not have those systems in place, and it was very common for sewage to get flushed on the tracks and the station platforms. I was witness to this as a kid watching the Lake Shore Limited, and it almost made me throw up!

May 17, 2008 - are you sure? a train crew member said that in fact it was sewage, but he said it is mixed with chemicals before release

May 17, 2008 - it may or may not have had chemicals mixed in, either way, it was absolutely rancid.
railmogul2 Says:
May 17, 2008 - yup :D
railmogul2 Says:
May 17, 2008 - no I meant the train conductor said what came out of the cafe car in this vid was sewage, and at first I thought he was wrong but I found out that early amfleets did not have sewage containment systems, however, the vast majority of them do now.

May 18, 2008 - Congrats!
SF3751 Says:
May 18, 2008 - I also have to agree, that can't be toilet water/sewage. Someone could sue if they became sick or something, Amtrak has to be aleast smart enough not to do that. The only thing they should let come out of their cars is the cafe water or the used shower water (usally falls between the rails). But I think they have enilimated the shower water.

May 18, 2008 - I know at all the "train shops etc", you can buy replicas of old railroad signs-- I have one that says "SANTA FE -- DO NOT FLUSH TOILET WHILE TRAIN IS STANDING AT STATION"!! Have it in one of my bathrooms at my house!! But it certainly indicates that back in "those days" they did indeed just "dump" the, er, ummm... stuff!! (C;

May 18, 2008 - I talked to a train crew member who said early amfleets and Horizon train cars do not have sewage containment systems. He said that the sewage is mixed with chemicals first, however, it still smelled NASTY!

May 24, 2008 - haha your camera cut itself off because it couldnt stand watching the shit water lol.
amtrak393 Says:
Jul 10, 2008 - Yea when i was Amtrak saw this sign that do not flush toilet when train is at stations
Chessiecat97 Says:
Jul 15, 2008 - I hate it when I see that happen! That's why I always go BEFORE getting on the train! I've seen an ENTIRE CRAP in the middle of a track before! (PS)- LOCOMOTIVES DO IT TOO!
Chessiecat97 Says:
Jul 15, 2008 - I disagree. amfleet coach class does it too. Just look for the short pipes right above the wheels on the end of the car.

signalmaster509 Says:
Jul 17, 2008 - This practice was common in the early days of passenger cars equipped with restrooms. However, the water (and that is what it is, lol) is either as ECML 119 stated: graywater from one of the sinks, or it could also be water from the condenser on the A/C units.
signalmaster509 Says:
Jul 17, 2008 - That is not raw sewage. If it was, you could sue. That practice was discontinued in 2001. ALL CARS/LOCOMOTIVES MUST HAVE SELF CONTAINED SEWAGE SYSTEMS.
Chessiecat97 Says:
Jul 18, 2008 - I have a vdeo of the SAME thing happening!
