How COOL is THAT! The Legendary Jeff Clayton, http://www.jeffclaytonjazz.com (Mr. Clayton appears Courtesy of Gail Boyd Artist Management, NY, NY) with Turk Music Fellowship winner Ms. Loren Vasquez (vocals), Capn Craig Tsurumoto (bass), Jeanette 'Jeena E' Lawler (rhythm), and the Cal Poly Jazz Band (Directed by his longtime friend Dr. Dave Kopplin) performing Otis Redding's "Respect" (1967). Mister Clayton (respectfully said) has performed with Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Dave Grusin, Queen Latifah, Michael Buble, Earth,Wind & Fire, BB King, his famous brother John, Diana Krall, Barry Manilow, Nina Simone, Maynard Ferguson, oh yeah, Dr. Dave Kopplin, I don't need to go on and on- I think you get the idea! One of the Truly Great (and Genuinely Nice) Performers of Our Time, Mr. Clayton uses his phenomenal talent not only on stage, but also to teach in many Jazz Camps and Clinics across the country. Capn Craig Tsurumoto (bass) shows his humility and respect by mirroring Jeff Clayton's dramatic hair style. The Cal Poly jazz Band was recently in the UNC Greeley Jazz Festival, the largest event of its type in America. Its over 4000 participants and 7000 guests come from 10 states, Canada, and even Thailand. IAJE (international Association for Jazz Education) Soloist Awards were presented to Jeanette 'Jeena E' Lawler (bongo drums) and James Goese (soprano sax). The 2008 UNC Greeley Jazz Festival Outstanding Musicianship Award (bass) winner is Da Capn, Craig Tsurumoto. Congratulations to Dr. Kopplin and the Cal Poly Band for a job well done! You can visit the Cal Poly Music Department at http://www.class.csupomona.edu/mu/Watch for Upcoming dates in the Fall.
