Chapter 20 - MARATHON 14/15Maryanne woke up in the guest room of the Jonas'. She looked over at the time. 12:45am. She sat up in the bed. She couldn't really sleep anymore. So she made her way downstairs and into the kitchen. The Jonas' was like a second home to her. She was always eating their food and Joe was always eating the Martinez' food. She made herself a pb&j sandwich and just sat there thinking and chewing.Nick woke up to noises being made in the kitchen. At first he thought it was a robber. But it couldn't be one. He got out of bed and walked to the guestroom. He opened the door and saw that Maryanne wasn't there. He walked downstairs and saw Maryanne in the kitchen eating a sandwich and just staring off into space, thinking. He plopped down in the seat across from her which made her jump out of her thoughts. She looked at him and their eyes met. She looked away quickly and finished her sandwich."Soo...How have you been?" She asked, breaking the silence."I've been okay. Writing a lot and uh, getting detentions in school still.""Really? That's like the exact same with me! Except when I didn't have a detention or when I wasn't writing I'd be hanging out with Joe." She said. 'Joe.' He thought. 'She's always with Joe. I bet she likes him.'"So...uh, do you like Joe?" He asked, not sure if he wanted to know the answer or not. She looked at him weirdly."Why? Does he still like me?" Maryanne asked. Nick looked up at her."He liked you?" "Yeah...He didn't tell you. Anyways to answer your question; No, I don't like Joe like that. Besides even if I did, which I don't, I clearly am not ready for another relationship. I know I said that when I first moved here, and then went out with Ryan but I'm serious this time. I'm not ready for another relationship, unless the guy is really and truly trustworthy and isn't a complete jerk." She said."I see...So how about your music. You and Josh still writing?" He asked."What is this, 20 Questions?" She joked. "But um, no. It's only me writing music now. I learned how to play the guitar and I don't know its like I'm fading away from everyone and I don't like that..." She trailed off."Sing" Nick said."Excuse me?" Maryanne asked. Nick shrugged."Sing! I've always wanted to hear your voice, so sing." He commanded. She raised an eyebrow."No. Besides it's late and we might wake everyone up." "Excuses" He chuckled."Oh yeah? And what about you? From what I've heard, you have an amazing voice and I haven't heard it yet." She pointed out."But I have a reason to not sing though. I made that promise and I do not plan on breaking it." He said and Maryanne sighed."Does music make you happy Nick? Like, does singing give you this happy feeling?""Yes" He said."Then I don't see why you made that promise to never sing again. If it made you happy then you shouldn't stop. Allyson wouldn't have wanted you to stop. She would want you to be happy and if singing is what makes you happy then I think you could keep going." She said softly. She didnt know if she should have brought up Allyson. She remembered when Kevin did and he walked out of the house and started crying. She didn't want him to do that to her. Luckily, he didn't."Your right" He said quietly."Wait, what was that? Say it again please. I don't think I heard right." Maryanne joked. Nick glared at her and they both began laughing again, like the first day they met, only quieter. Nick stopped laughing and looked at the clock. 2:15am."Well we've been down here for almost 2 hours. I guess we should go back to bed." Nick said, Maryanne nodded. She walked over to Nick and gave him a hug."Thank you" She whispered. "You're welcome. Goodnight Maryanne." Nick said and hugged her back. Maryanne pulled away."Night Nicholas" She walked upstairs, back into the guest room and went right to sleep, not waking up again until the next morning.-----------------
