Nov 18, 2008 - How do I prevent the matted/knotted fro effect? Im on my seventh month of transitioning and my hair is super thick 3b/4a/4b and I have to blow dry my hair after every wash. I would love to air dry but every time I do it knots up and it takes me hours to detangle and lose wads of hair. I've tried washing in braids, drying in braids, and the scarf to slick down the hair. Nothing has worked, any suggestions?

First, i stopped using ALL shampoos, even the ones that are natural and without sodium laureth sulfates. I either rinse with baking soda or with a rosemary rinse (Canadianlioness has a great recipe!)And sometimes i use liquid castille soap. ( i miss lather, so i started using this)I found it at Target; $2 for a small bottle, and it lasts me a month.

A stocking cap sounds way too hot for me...I've seen some people using it and I can't see how can your scalp breathe like that and get clean.
