Doctors are calling 13-year-old Hayden Halverson's recovery nothing short of a miracle.Back on September 16, Hayden crashed his bike outside of his grandparent's house in Gilbert. He told ABC15 he hobbled back to the house and told them what happened. Afterwards, he collapsed on their sofa."I couldn't feel my legs", said Hayden. His grandparents immediately called his mother."I just thought it was a simple accident I had no idea what was really going on", said Hayden's mom Christine. But once she got to Hayden she realized just how bad he was. "He said he couldn't feel his legs," said Christine. "I started to pinch his feet and then his legs I went all the way up and he couldn't feel anything."Hayden was then airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital where the prognosis wasn't good. "I was highly doubtful that we would have a good outcome here," said Dr. Nicholas Theodore.Doctors began extensive surgery to repair Hayden's back and spinal cord. But they weren't sure if the operation would be a success. Christine remembered that day like it was yesterday. "They told us hope for the best but prepare for the worst."However, Hayden and his family weren't about to give up. Instead, Hayden's determination and the family's prayers changed everything. "From the first time that he could feel his toes or feel our hands on his legs, everyday was truly a miracle," said Christine. Now, less than a month after his accident Hayden can walk and the end results are looking good. "The future is bright. I think he has a fantastic future ahead of him and I think he's gonna do extremely well," said Dr. Theodore.Hayden may be able to go home this Saturday. Even though his road to recovery is a long one, there's a chance that not only will he walk normally again, but he may be able to jump back on his bike again. And that's something his mom Christine supports him in. "I want him to do everything that he did before, so if the doctors say it's ok, as long as we do have all the protective gear, I want him to go out and be a normal child."Reported by: Jose Miguel http://www.abc15.com/content/news/phoenixmetro/story.aspx?content_id=22868c13-0d02-47c8-9039-99db1bf7ccfc
