Chapter 16 - MARATHON 10/15Zooming into the future. Not that much. Only about 3 months so now it is April.Maryanne and Nick still haven't talked since that day back at the school's garden when Maryanne said she couldn't be friends with him anymore. She still managed to remain close friends with Joseph and Kevin. Joe eventually started to crush on Maryanne and he told her so, but she said she doesn't have any feelings for him in that way. He's slowly TRYING to get over her. Kevin and Heather are now dating. They have been going strong for 2 months. Josh and Maryanne are fading farther apart from each other and Josh is worried about her. Mark is still a little prankster and Samantha and Frankie are best friends. Maryanne is now dating Ryan Younge. Even though Nick isn't talking to her, he's still worried that Ryan will hurt her because he has never dated a girl for so long. Like Nick said a few months ago, Ryan just likes to use girls, and as soon as he gets what he wants, he kicks them to the curb. Only, this time, he's being extra careful with Maryanne. Hmm...It was a Friday afternoon. School was finished and Maryanne was the only one who hadn't arrived home yet. Heather was out with Kevin, Josh and Mark were playing one on one in basketball, Samantha was playing with Frankie over at his house, Nick was in his room as usual, and Joe was sitting in the Martinez' kitchen waiting for Maryanne to get home. He was always over at the Martinez' if Maryanne wasn't at his house. They were best friends and they considered each other's house both their homes. While waiting, he rummaged through her fridge and made himself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He plopped back down on a chair, chewed his food and stared at the door. Finally, Maryanne walked in the house. She walked right into the kitchen, not noticing Joe and made herself a pb&j sandwich. "Make me another one while your at it!" Joe said and startled her. She jumped which caused her to drop her sandwich on the ground. She picked it up and walked over to Joe."Here you go." She smiled and went to make another one. She watched Joe look at the sandwich that had fallen on the ground. He shrugged, brushed it off with his hand and took a bite. Maryanne made a face."You're disgusting, you know that?" She said. He smiled and nodded."But you still love me, 'cause I'm youre best friend." He said and she rolled her eyes and laughed. She took her sandwich and sat right across from him. Suddenly Nick appeared in her kitchen. Maryanne turned to Joe and gave him a look. Without answering, Joe texted her.'You two really need to talk. So don't even think about leaving.'She read the next and sighed. Nick sat down in the only seat left. A silence filled the room until Joe broke it."So what you guys doing this weekend?" He asked."Nothing" Nick replied. Maryanne rolled her eyes."I'm going out on a date with Ryan." She said. Nick looked up at her and opened his mouth. He was actually going to tell her about the real Ryan."You know...Ryan is really a jerk. There's a lot you dont know about him.""And how would you know this?" She asked. Joe saw what was coming and left the house. He didn't want to be a part of what could happen between the two."I've been living here longer then you have! I think I should know who he really is!""Oh, and who does he "really" happen to be?""He's a jerk! He's only using you! He only goes out with girls just so he can get in their pants! As soon as he gets what he wants he dumps them! I don't want you to be one of those girls!""I don't believe you. And even if all this was true, why would you care anyways? We don't talk annoy more! We aren't friends! Why should it matter?" She was mad at Nick but she didnt want to be. The whole time they didn't talk she liked him more. She didn't want to admit it, but she knew she was falling for Nick. She thought the whole 'if I dont talk to Nick thing, my feelings will go away' would make things better, but it only made things worse."You're right! We don't talk anymore! We don't know each other anymore! So when Ryan does end up hurting you, don't bother coming to apologize to me!" He said and walked out of Maryanne's house, slamming the front door. Maryanne stomped up to her room and slammed her door as well. If her mom was home, she'd probably end up getting yelled at so it was a good thing her mom was at work. Besides, Maryanne wanted to be alone. She picked up her guitar and notebook, and began singing and writing. It's what she did best when she wasn't in the mood. She soon fell asleep afterwards and didnt wake up till the next morning.----------
