The UNC Greeley Jazz Festival is the largest event of its kind in America. It's over 4000 participants come from 10 states, Canada, and even Thailand. The Cal Poly Pomona Jazz Band (directed by Dr. Dave Kopplin) features Paul Anka Award winner, singer/songwriter Candice Brown in Hoagy Carmichael's (1899-1981) romantic jazz standard, "Skylark" (1942). It's claimed that Johnny Mercer's lyrics were his longing for the young Judy Garland. Ms. Brown is accompanied by IAJE (International Association for Jazz Education) Soloist Award winners Jeanette Lawler (drums) and James Goese (sax) and 2008 UNC Greeley Jazz Festival Outstanding Musicianship Award (bass) winner, Craig Tsurumoto. Typical of Dr. Kopplin's performances, the UNC Greeley Jazz Festival set is 5 charts in 5 different Jazz styles. Good Work and Congratulations to Dr. Kopplin and the Band. Visit the Cal Poly Pomona Music Department at http://www.class.csupomona.edu/mu/Candice Brown Fans (I know you're out there... you "make it rain" on my InBox (especially GlendaleJazzSingerFan and DeeDubDub) whenever she performs): Be sure to see Candice's other performances here on YouTube.com.**Note** In response to recent inquiries, the hot trumpet soloist is Megan Harris. Have a nice summer and see us again in the FALL.
