Chapter 23- "I want to show you something." After lunch Nick took me to the beach and once we took our shoes off, he led me over towards a part I had never seen before. We walked for about five minutes until we came to a clearing that was completely empty. I could see why because I don't think many people knew about this part of the beach, which was a shame. I never thought I could see some sand and water look so beautiful, but in that place everything looked beautiful. It looked like I had walked onto a beach somewhere off in an exotic rainforest off the coast of some island. There were patches of bright colored flowers all around and the sand almost looked whiter than any sand I had seen before. How come I had never seen this before? Nick smiled at my reaction as he sat himself onto the soft, warm grains under our feet. "Wow, how did you come across a place like this?" I went over and sat down next to Nick. "Um, I was walking down the shoreline one day and I looked down and saw that the sand seemed different so I walked further and I just happened to walk right into this place." We sat in silence as I took everything in. After a few minutes I laid down in the sand, not worrying about getting any in my hair, and closed my eyes. I almost fell asleep until I felt Nick's hand reach for mine. Slowly, I opened my eyes and turned my head in his direction to see him laying right next to me. I smiled and turned back facing forward and closed my eyes again. "It's so peaceful here. I think I could spend all day just laying in the sand." "Yah that's what I love about this place." "It's just so gorgeous over here I can't get over it." "Well, you fit right in." I smiled and looked back at Nick. He brought my hand up to his lips and kissed my hand again. "You know, I normally don't tell people about this place." I looked at him funny and then sat up on my elbow to get a better look at him. "Then why am I here?" Nick sat up and then looked me in the eyes again. That's when I felt my heart flutter for the millionth time while being around him. "Because maybe I want to be here with you." I realized I wasn't breathing, so I had to take a deep breath to get myself back on track. Nick smiled and then leaned in to give me a soft kiss on the lips. Suddenly that little beach became my favorite spot in the entire world. It was my spot to share with Nick that no one else knew about, and that made me feel special. After we parted we both had to catch our breath. We stayed on our little island, as it would come to be known, and talked until we were blue in the face. Being with Nick in that atmosphere was like being with any normal person I knew. But he wasn't normal, and to be honest, neither was I. Nick was a pop-star and I was the girl with that disease. We talked about everything in our lives. Nick talked about his diabetes and going on tour and I talked about my family, leaving out the fact that I had cancer. I wanted to tell him I really did, but I don't think I could have ever brought myself to do it. I guess I was afraid Nick wouldn't see me the same way and wouldn't like a girl who was in the condition I was. To some people I was a freak, and that's the last thing I wanted Nick to think of me as. Usually I didn't care what people thought, but with Nick it was different. I wanted to care about what he thought and I wanted to act like I was perfect just because I liked him. I wanted to be perfect just for him.[Song: Gotta Find You Artist: Joe Jonas]
