playing a chaturangui in NYC subway.I decided to take my music to the streets/Subways of New York City. Mainly to share my music with the masses of people, but also to overcome fears, get feedback, have fun and mostly to play music. I got to NYC thought i could just play in the subway without being amplified. I soon discovered that this was wrong, because of all the surrounding soundsSo i set out and bought a pickup, leads, trolley, and a batteryoperated amplifier. This did the trick. At first it was really difficult for me to navigate my way through the crowded subways, take my trolley up and down stairs in the subways, and to find a good spot to play without there already being another performer.I decided i wanted to play NYC SUBWAYS when i first arrived in NY afew months back, because the music that comes out of the subway isamazing it truly is. The amount of people that stopped and listened, asked me questions, wanted to play with me and what have you was amazing. It really was amazing to throw myself out there and see what people i wouldmeet on a daily basis and the contacts that i would make. It was really an eye opener and made me fall into my music even more.THIS VIDEO is me playing at 14th st/UNION square (MANHATTAN)on the L line. It is a pretty hot spot, so i would have to get there really early to find my spot and set up and settle into playing. This journey, experience, experiment, was brilliant Itruly loved it and i hope that i could get back there to actuallyset up a band or start performing in bars/coffee shops.THE INSTRUMENT i am using is a Chaturangui which is the creation ofmy TEACHER and FRIEND Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya, who i would say is one of the best if not the best LAP SLIDE guitarist on theglobe. I had the opportunity to train with him in his home town of Kolkatta for a couple of months FEB 2007. He is my greatest influence. The Chaturangui is a 22 string lap slide guitar, with 12 sympathetic strings, 2 drone strings, 6 sliding string and 2 rythm strings. It truly is an amazing instrument.Anyways i really do hope that you guys enjoy my music, any feedbackwould be welcomed. enjoy!!afshiN
